Beth Wilson wants to “sew” the seed to young creatives to start a career in the Tees Valley

A creative studio is opening to the public to inspire the next generation of creatives and showcase Beth Wilson Embroidery’s award-winning designs.

Love and Romance dress

The star of the show at the Open Studio event on Friday, 5th December will be the Love and Romance dress, which contains a staggering 1,195,200 stitches and 480 individually embroidered flowers from nine different species including 3D layered roses and fluffy Sweet Williams. The floral-embroidered masterpiece merges couture elegance with modern digital embroidery to create an eye-catching timeless design.

“This was a real labour of love and is one of my proudest creations,” explains artist and business owner Beth Wilson, who specialises in creative digital embroidery design for fashion and textiles.

“Each flower in the design carries a meaningful message, inspired by the Victorian Language of Flowers – one of my favourite reference books which I spotted on a trip to Brooklyn, New York.”

And the stunning creation, which has won a national award – the Digital Embroidery Non-Education award at the National Embroidery Awards 2025, will take pride of place alongside an intricate black skirt, which Beth wore over a plain black dress when she won Small Business of the Year at the Tees Businesswomen Awards earlier this month. Beth’s creative studio, which is based inside Digital House in Stockton, will be open to the public in a rare behind-the-scenes sneak peek into her award-winning designs and the creative process from digital design to live stitching.

Throughout the day, the studio will host students from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College and the Northern School of Art.

“Inspiring the next generation is so important to me,” says Beth, who was named as one of the Tees Valley Artists of the Year 2025 by Tees Valley Combined Authority earlier this year.

“I want to show young people that you can have a career as an artist. I love sowing that seed to young people.”

The open studio evening, which starts at 6pm until 8pm, is a free ticketed event and guests will also have the opportunity to purchase some items created this year including sample jackets and banners. Attendees can view the gallery displays showcasing the year’s collections and project boards, enjoy exclusive access to machine room demonstrations, have a look around the design studio workspace and join in interactive activities such as ‘What shall we make next?’.

Tees Valley Artists of the Year is delivered by the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority and funded with the support of the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Tickets for the evening event at Digital House, 62 Dovecot Street, Stockton, TS18 1LL, are available at: Beth Wilson Embroidery Open Day Tickets, Fri 5 Dec 2025 at 18:00 | Eventbrite
